Our Organization
Ostomy Toronto is a chapter of the United Ostomy Association of Canada,Inc. (UOAC), a voluntary health organization dedicated to assisting people who have or will have intestinal or urinary tract diversions. We provide emotional support, educational services and support to the family unit. Members of Ostomy Toronto receive a publication titled "The Connection", the U.O.A.C. "Ostomy Canada Newsletter, bi-annual issue of Ostomy Canada magazine, and the benefit of meeting others with ostomies at regular meetings. Ostomy Toronto is a not-for-profit registered charity. We welcome bequests and donations and will be pleased to provide a receipt for income tax purposes. This website has been set up to be a resource for information and up to date news for ostomates and their families in the Toronto area. One of the primary activities of Ostomy Toronto is its patient visiting service. Trained and certified visitors are available upon request of the attending physicians,nurse/ET, family member or the patient. Either preoperative or post operative visits are provided for the patient, I deleted words on “many other chapters & satellites” trained spouse (or significant other) visitors who offer support to the partner are also provided. Some Reasons for Joining
- Ostomy Toronto provides moral support in an informal setting for persons who have or will have ostomy or related surgeries. Family and friends are most welcome.
- Ostomy Toronto is concerned with the practical matters arising from members' surgical procedures.
- Assist with advocacy issues.
- Educational material is provided and distributed upon request (audio visual and print).
- You will receive ten monthly issues of our Chapter newsletter.
- You will receive bi-annual issues of our national magazine titled Ostomy Canada.
- We hold meetings beginning in September through June.
- Listen to guest speakers from the medical community or related fields.
- Meet people who have survived ostomy surgery.
- Take a look at the latest ostomy care products offered by the manufacturers. Or, engage in an occasional 'rap' session where all your questions or concerns are addressed.
- Refreshments are provided.
- Attendees at the meetings receive a monthly communiqué published by UOAC titled 'The Connection'.
- Learn more about the Chapter support of Canadian 'Ostomy Youth Camp' in Calgary.
- As a member you will be presented with the opportunity of assisting others with their rehabilitation back into the main stream of life.
- The Chapter provides international and national networking.
- All donations receive an official tax-deductible receipt.
- You are invited to work towards participating in our Patient Visiting Program and more......
